Membership

The Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area is comprised of the premier educational institutions in the National Capital Region. The Consortium represents an incredible cross-section of private universities, state public universities, community colleges, and minority-serving institutions, as well as federal universities and the Smithsonian Institution.

Becoming a Member

The Consortium provides exclusive and innovative opportunities to highlight and advance institutions through collaboration, knowledge sharing, professional development, best practices, experiential education, strategic advocacy, leading-edge solutions and more.

The Consortium offers two categories of membership:

1. Voting Membership

In order to be considered by the Consortium’s Board of Trustees for voting membership, an institution must be nominated and it must be a regionally accredited college or university located in the National Capital Region which includes the District of Columbia; Prince George’s County, Maryland; and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties in Virginia. The presidents of the voting member institutions comprise the Consortium’s Board of Trustees.

Voting members receive a number of members services including but not limited to:

Representation on the Board of Trustees

Access to Consortium’s Cross-Registration System

Exclusive invitations to Presidential Roundtables 

Professional development opportunities

Invitations to participate in the Consortium’s committees and working groups

Strategic and impactful government relations

Access to the Consortium’s reports and briefings

Participation in grant and corporate funding opportunities

Access to exclusive opportunities through our Preferred Partners program

2. Associate Membership

In order to be considered by our Board of Trustees for Associate Membership, an institution must be nominated and it must be a regionally accredited college or university with a main campus located within 75 miles of the National Capital Region; a regionally accredited college or university with significant activity in the National Capital Region (e.g., a branch campus or major academic partnership); or a nationally recognized organization with a significant role in education that is based in the National Capital Region.

Associate members receive a number of member services including but not limited to:

Professional development opportunities

Invitations to participate in the Consortium’s committees and working groups

Strategic and impactful government relations

Access to the Consortium’s reports and briefings

Participation in grant and corporate funding opportunities

Access to exclusive opportunities through our Preferred Partners program
