Yes, you can afford college!
- It’s not too late to apply for federal student aid and there is still money available. Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)® gives you access to federal, state, and school financial aid, including grants and scholarships. Financial aid counselors are available to give you FREE support for completing the FAFSA®!
- It’s not too late to apply to schools. Several colleges in our area are still enrolling students for the Fall. Click here to see a list of all Consortium member schools including those that are currently accepting applications.
Completing the FAFSA® is as easy as 1-2-3!
1. Gather your documents and information. You will need:
- Your social security number or your A-Number (if you’re not a U.S. citizen)
- Financial information based on your dependency status. You’ll need federal income tax returns; records of child support received; current balance of cash, savings, and checking accounts
- Bank statements and records of investments, businesses, and farms (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
- An FSA ID (account username and password) to log in to StudentAid.gov and start the FAFSA form electronically
2. Get free, one-on-one help from a financial aid counselor experienced in FAFSA® completion. Send an email or a text to ask a question or to request a virtual appointment if you need help. Appointments are 45-60 minutes in length. Contact us and a representative will respond to you within 24 hours.
3. Sign and submit the FAFSA® form. Check your email regularly for any messages from the U.S. Department of Education or your college or career school.

The Consortium’s “Do the FAFSA” team participated in the 2024 Back to School Bash, a school supply giveaway event presented by Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice. The team met with hundreds of students and families who received information on college access, free school supplies, haircuts, food, fun, and more.
